Missouri Chamber President Dan Mehan voiced the support of his organization for the bonding package announced today by Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones and Rep. Chris Kelly.
“The Missouri Chamber supports responsible bonding by the state for economic development, education capital improvement needs and transportation infrastructure,” said Mehan. “We have a unique opportunity to tap into millions of dollars that were previously committed to the Third State Building Fund. If we use that funding to invest in the foundation of our economy – education, transportation, and economic development – Missouri could see a great return.”
The package has bipartisan support. Speaker Jones is a Republican and Rep. Kelly is a Democrat.
“With support on both sides of the aisle, this legislation is well positioned to be one of the most significant accomplishments of this session, with an impact that could be felt decades from now,” Mehan said.
Mehan emphasizes that it is an appropriate time to use bonding.
“With the cost of borrowing at historically low rates, the timing is right for this approach,” Mehan said.
The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry (www.mochamber.com) was founded in 1923 and is the largest business association in Missouri, representing almost 3,000 employers providing more than 425,000 jobs for Missourians.
