Brian Bunten joins Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry staff as Assistant General Counsel/Director of Legislative Affairs

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomes Brian Bunten as the organization’s new Assistant General Counsel and Director of Legislative Affairs.

Bunten joins the effort to protect and advance Missouri business by advocating for pro-business legislation and policy in the State Capitol. He will work directly with legislators to help ensure the voice of the business community is heard as new statutes are drafted. In addition to his role as Assistant General Counsel, Bunten will also serve as the Director of Legislative affairs for the Missouri Chamber. He will specialize in the following legislative issues: human resources, education, transportation and health care.

“We are grateful and excited to have Brian on board with the governmental affairs staff,” Dan Mehan, president and CEO of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said. “Brian brings a great deal of experience with business and legislative leaders and will strengthen our advocacy team and increase our capabilities as the largest business organization in the state.”

Most recently, Bunten served as General Counsel/Director of Policy for Lt. Governor Peter Kinder. While there, he provided legal counsel for the office of the Lt. Governor as well as advising on public policy matters impacting the state of Missouri, oversaw the office budget, and served as liaison to the Missouri Housing Development Commission, Missouri Development Finance Board, Missouri Tourism Commission and several other offices.

Prior to his work for the Lt. Governor, Bunten served as policy director for the Spence for Governor Campaign and the Friends of Peter Kinder Campaign, and as Legislative Director for Senator Kevin Engler.

Bunten earned a Bachelor’s of Journalism degree in advertising from the University of Missouri, and his Juris Doctorate from Saint Louis University School of Law. Bunten has served on several campaigns and begain his career as a law clerk for Faber and Brand LLC in Columbia. He resides in Columbia.
